How can I reach a live person quickly?

Dial (919) 733-4276.  After the recorded greeting begins, press button 2 on your telephone pad and wait for a live person -- if one is available at that moment. 

If no one is available due to high call volume (or it is not during public business hours), another recorded message will then ask you to leave a message or your name, area code and telephone number to receive a returned call later by a DNPE staff member during public business hours. 

The busiest call months of the year are usually mid July through mid September (when local schools are opening).
