How are NC non-public schools notified when the President of the United States or the Governor of the State of North Carolina orders that US or NC flags be flown at half-staff for a brief period of time?  DNPE will post the Governor's order to do so at the "What's New" section of its web site.

When the President of the United States or the Governor of the State of North Carolina orders that flags be flown at half-staff, are NC non-public schools required by law to do so?  No.  Such orders are issued only for US or NC government owned buildings.  However, it is recommended that NC non-public schools and all citizens and businesses also voluntarily do so.
