State of North Carolina Home School Information Packet.

Topic #2 -- College

Admission of home school graduates:  College admission requirements for home school graduates vary among colleges.  Call the admissions department of the college(s) in which your son/daughter may be interested and ask about their acceptance and entrance requirements for home schooled students.

Entrance tests -- How do I register for the ACT, PSAT/NMSQT or SAT?  For the American College Test, click on ACT.  For the Preliminary Scholastic Abilities Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, click on PSAT/NMSQT.  For the Scholastic Abilities Test, click on SAT.

May a home school enrollee take the PSAT/NMSQT at a local public high school?  Most local public high schools in North Carolina do not permit it.  Therefore, DNPE suggests that you contact a local private high school to see if your student may take the test there.  The test is given only once each year -- during the latter part of October.  The arrangements with the local private high school should be made by each August so that the administrator of the private high school has sufficient time to order an extra test booklet for your student.  You may search for a school location near you at which the test will be given by clicking on PSAT/NMSQT.
