Private School Administrators Honored as
National Distinguished Principals

Six private school administrators were recently recognized as National Distinguished Principals (NDP) by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education.  U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings praised NAESP for recognizing the distinguished principals and stated, “Behind every great school, you’ll find a great principal.”  The private school principals receiving the honor attended two days of ceremonies and activities along with their public school Department of Defense school, and State Department school peers who also received the award.  The ceremonies take place in place in Washington, DC, each fall and culminate with a black-tie event.

The NDP program was established in 1984 as a means to recognize elementary and middle school principals who set the pace, character, and quality of the education children receive in their early years.  Principals that are selected must have at least five years of active administration, and demonstrate such qualities as active community involvement, and distinguished leadership in civic, religious, or humanitarian activities.
