If you are operating a non-public school in North Carolina (either conventional non-public or home), you may be interested in learning more about the educational opportunities available through the resources of the State of North Carolina's Queen Anne's Revenge Shipwreck Project. |
What is believed to be the wreck of Blackbeard's flagship that ran aground and sank in 1718 off the North Carolina coast is currently being excavated. During the first week of October, 2001, the State of North Carolina will offer its second QARLive Dive that will broadcast from the ocean floor through the internet to school computers. Students whose schools (conventional non-public or home) register officially will have the opportunity of asking the divers questions as they work.
An email newsletter about progress being made on recovering and restoring artifacts is also available. Those interested in being placed on the mailing list to receive information about these activities should send their email addresses to: simschul@coastalnet.com.
The QAR related websites are as follows:
The Project operates out of the Underwater Archaeology Branch of the NC Division of Archives and History. The Public Relations Coordinator for the QAR Shipwreck Project is Mr. Sim Wilde.Main website: http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/qar
